Hi Julie. Thanks for your article. We own a growth agency (marketing + sales) and this will really help when our customers ask the question. Usually they don’t see the value of designers and then they overwork them.

We have found that designers/creatives are also great at other things that companies really need, like photography and videography. This is another way to show ROI on the hire by having another designer that can support you in your marketing efforts by shooting video for your brand for example.

We have also hired designers/creatives for one task/project and then through exploration, education and empowerment they have grown into positions that now provide so much more value for us and our customers.

When hiring creatives, we usually rely on portfolios, cultural fit and of course intuition. Do you recommend testing designers on the tools or with a creative exercise/test? Is that even possible?
