Commander Ronaldo

Cristiano leads the bombing of goals against Sevilla

Real Madrid won 7-3 against Sevilla last night at Santiago Bernabéu. Los Blancos where ahead 3-0 during the first half but after displaying some lack of focus, mainly by the defense, Sevilla was able to score two goals and come back to life.

The game was a crazy one, not only because of the 10 goals scored, but because the referee was, without doubt, really bad. His decisions, or better yet, the lack of decisions he made affected both teams. He missed two penalties in favor of Real Madrid, and awarded Sevilla two penalties that were not legal.

Despite the referee’s terrible decisions Real Madrid was able to display a significant improvement in their game. Gareth Bale had a marvelous performance, with two goals and two assisted. Another leading man for the team was Karim Benzema who demonstrated he can really contribute greatly to his club, when placed on the right position. The French striker played more loosely and was very comfortable switching positions. He did an amazing defensive job too and was also able to assist two goals.

But the man of the match was without doubt, Cristiano Ronaldo who scored a hat-trick and dedicated one of them to Sepp Blatter. The Portuguese striker proved the world once again that nothing can stop him. As a commander he lead his team to the best performance so far this season and the Santiago Bernabéu chanted his name during the game, proving how much they love CR7.

Another great news for Real Madrid was Xabi Alonso’s comeback after 165 days. The Spanish midfielder displayed a very solid defensive performance and helped recover balls, distribute plays and give the midfield the pause they had been missing in previous games.

As I see it, this new project is starting to work out, not only because of the improvement during last night’s game, but also against Málaga and FC Barcelona. The team is starting to assimilate the concept of the gamestyle Ancelotti is trying to teach them and you can see how more comfortable the players are when passing the ball, switching positions and attacking. The defense still needs to improve, mainly on their concentration. They tend to lose focus and leave their positions uncovered when participating in the attack and then they are caught by surprise when the team misses the last pass and they are not able to return to the defensive side quickly enough, compromising Diego López who had an amazing performance last night and once again saved the team in various occassions.

With more time I am sure the team will be able to correct the little mistakes and continue to improve their gamestyle. In the mean time let us be patient and support our team and players with all our heart and soul.
