Some things are better left unsaid.
Blatter disrespects Ronaldo at Oxford conference.
This week many Madridistas and football fans have become upset with FIFA’s President Sepp Blatter for making fun of Cristiano Ronaldo at a conference held at Oxford Union Society.
Mr. Blatter was asked who did he consider to be the best player: Messi or Ronaldo? And his answer was this:
“They are both exceptional players but they are totally different and football lives because of the difference of stars. Lionel Messi is a good boy that every father and mother would like to have at home. He is a good man, he is very fast and he is not exuberant. He is playing well, he is dancing, he’s really good, and he is a good boy. And that’s what has made him so popular, and naturally he can get a lot of votes because he is a nice man.
And the other one, this is something else, the other one he is like a commander on the field of play but this is the other side of football and it is good to have such commanders in the field.
I like both of them but I prefer Messi.”
When talking about Ronaldo, Blatter didn’t even mention his name and started doing silly moves in the attempt to imitate the Portuguese player.
I personally think this was very disrespectful. Not only because what he did was beyond ridiculous but because he is the head of FIFA and has to act objectively. What he said clearly shows that this man has no idea of what football is and has probably never watched Cristiano play. Ronaldo is the best player in the world. He is committed to his club, trains hard, always wants to improve and sets a good example for children whether he is on or off the pitch.
I won’t mention all the differences between Messi and Ronaldo and why I think Ronaldo is a better player and person because it will take forever, but I do want to say that it’s okay to be fan of anyone as long as you show respect and objectiveness in your criteria.
Finally, if Blatter likes Messi he should at least kept it to himself. It was unnecessary to state his partialness towards the Argentine given the fact that the voting for the Balon D’Or will start soon. This whole situation makes me doubt the credibility of this award even more. No wonder why Messi has 4 trophies and Ronaldo only 1 even though the difference in goals and performance is small.
I won’t refer to corruption of FIFA or the altered voting in last year’s Balon D’Or. I will write more about that later on. Today I just wanted to express my anger and maelstrom and let the world know how unfair FIFA, UEFA and journalists have been and how they have created a false image around Ronaldo making people believe he is arrogant, selfish and stuck up while Leo Messi seems to be Godsent.
