I followed the instructions at this post, tried a few times, uninstalled and reinstalled Karabiner, but couldn't make it to work.

Are you using Mojave? Did it work straightaway? I tried looking at the GitHub Issues page for the project and it seems lots of people are having similar problems with Mojave.
