Homework assignments are filthy, disgusting little infections that should be eliminated. But, the academic world insists they fester on the skins of their poor, poor students. So, how do you solve these dastardly little things the night before and not on the bus ten minutes before class? Here are seven tips for how to finish a homework assignment the night before it’s due:

1. Get Help from Friends/Family

If your problem with completing assignments the night before comes from the difficulty factor, I would suggest getting help from your friends or family. They may not have any more of a grasp on the topics covered in the homework than you do, but by putting your heads together, you may be able to figure it out. Using a friend or family member gives you a sounding board to talk through your issues with the homework. Plus, if you’re getting help from a friend, you’ll be getting in your social quota for the night.

2. Set-Up a Tranquil Work Space

A lot of the struggles with homework has to do with students’ tendency to rush through it. When you’re rushing, you aren’t putting enough attention into finding a peaceful workplace to complete your assignments. By finding a tranquil workplace, you’ll be able to focus more on the work at hand and less on distractions or how uncomfortable you are.

3. Don’t Do It All at Once

The biggest misconception about completing assignments is that it should all be done at once. This is incorrect. In fact, this is a bad way to go about it, as spending too much time on homework will exhaust you, ultimately causing you to spend more time on homework than you ought to. Pace yourself over the course of the night so getting through the homework will be much easier. Do a piece of homework then indulge in a hobby, so on and so forth.

4. Create a List of Goals to Structure Your Work

In conjunction with the last suggestion, you should create a list of goals before you begin to structure how you complete the assignments. Let’s say you have three homework assignments to complete. You might create a list of six goals, each goal being to complete half of an assignment. After you complete each goal, you can take a small break and then come back to finish another goal. By using goals to structure the work, it gives off the feeling of progress as you go along and makes a large slog of homework seem much easier to complete.

5. Complete the Hard Parts First

You’re going to be the most refreshed and ready to work at the beginning of the night. So, you should make sure to do all of the most difficult buts at the beginning. If you complete the easy bits and save the hard bits for later, you’re going to be tired by the time you need to use your brain the most. By completing the hard parts and moving onto the easy parts afterward, you’ll have an easier time because in your mind, you’ll know the hardest parts are out of the way and rest should be a breeze in comparison.

6. Read Your Textbook to Have a Better Understanding of the Material

a. Difficulty is a major reason why students have a hard time completing assignments in a succinct fashion. Sometimes, teachers just don’t do the best job at teaching the material in a way that’s replicable at home on your own. So, if that’s your situation, I’d pull out the old textbook and start reading. I know this seems like a foreign concept, but your textbook actually has some good information in it, information that can help ease the pain of completing homework.

7. Use an Online Studying Program

a. If all else fails, you can always seek help outside the confines of your social circle and house. You can take it to the internet and to an online studying program. There are websites out there that provide study help and online tutors that can help you work through any snags in homework completion. If I were you, I’d try out SolutionInn. Not only do they have top of the line tutors, but they also have a textbook answers database that provides step-by-step solutions to problems that that either you have or are similar to ones you have. By signing up for this service, you are basically securing the fact that you will never have trouble with homework again.
