5 Ways To Overcome Monday Mornings

Day 260/365: It’s all about preparation… and wine!

It’s Monday again.

I actually love Mondays if they’re coming after a slow, uneventful weekend. I had one of those just this weekend. It’s uncommon for me to have such a weekend, but it’s Autumn, my house looks like a small constructions zone and really, nobody is feeling like going anywhere but the beds.

The thing is, Mondays are also some of the hardest days of the week. You have all the work that needs to be done, all the calls, the commuting, the takeout food that always tastes funny, the waking up early, the everything routine.

Here are 5 ways I get over my Mondays. They worked for me every time.

  1. Wine — no, don’t pour wine in your coffee cup and have 10 sips while you’re driving to the office. The night before, pour yourself a glass of your best wine and slowly enjoy it. By yourself, if you can. Reflect on the week that’s ending and at the one ahead. Sipping through good quality wine has been proven to have health benefits on the body. I’m joking, of course, but just try it and you’ll see the difference. As they say, tomorrow starts the night before.
  2. Prepare everything — also the night before, you’ll want to prepare everything for Monday morning. Your backpack, your clothes, your car keys, your shoes, your cologne, even your breakfast. I know Mondays are hard enough so I always do overnight oats for Monday mornings.
  3. Move around — it’s great if you can wake up earlier to do some sports, but if not, try and move around the house a little bit before you get in the shower. Open up the windows, make your bed, put on some music and bounce around. Anything that gets the blood flowing faster is great.
  4. Talk to somebody — Mondays are pretty lonley days. Everybody has a lot of stuff to do, so it’s hard to get some talking going. Which is why it’s better to start Monday mornings with some talks. Call your mom, your brother, your girlfriend or talk to your dog or cat. Anything works if you’re speaking words out loud to start the socialising early in the morning.
  5. Wake up early — this is the best advice that I can give you for a good Monday. If you’re waking up at, say 8:30 on a normal working day, wake up before 8 on Mondays. I don’t know why, but when you’re done with that routine and realise you’re 30 minutes ahead of schedule at the office, something just snaps and you’re having a ton more productivity. Look at me now! It’s only 9:45 and I’m done with Medium, which is usually ready by 11, 11:30 at best!
