7 Harry Potter Quotes That Will Change Your Views On Life Forever

Day 23/365: A single depressed mom wrote the best book series ever written, getting the idea on a train ride

In 1995, a single mom struggling with depression, a husband for whom she obtained an Order of Restraint and financial problems finished the manuscript of her first book. She mainly wrote in cafes and only after she could get her daughter to fall asleep. She wouldn’t be published until the next year after 12 publishing houses would turn her down on different motives.

The best story ever told

In the book, a young boy, Harry Potter, was battling the forces of the darkest wizard of all times, Lord Voldemort, in order to save not only the wizarding world but to also make peace with his own dramatic past.

The young wizard managed to survive the “Avada Kedavra” or the Killing Curse is the only wizard in history which is known to have ever survived it. From the first book, 6 others would follow, turning the story of the scarred wizard into the most famous tale of all times.

In June 1997, Bloomsbury published the first book of the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone with an initial print run of 1.000 copies. Today, such copies are valued between £16,000 and £25,000 a piece. The whole Harry Potter brand now has a whopping $15 billions value worldwide.

Fame changes weak people

The best part is, although she inspired hundreds of millions of people and gained a fortune, Rowling never actually changed her ways. This is a much bigger win than the fame and fortune combined because being able to remain the same, down-to-Earth human, after you irreversibly crossed the line into the world of international success is the ultimate accomplishment.

“We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.” — J.K. Rowling

The Harry Potter books are the first series of books that I read entirely. I grew up with them. After the launch of the last book, The Deathly Hallows, I remember staying up for 30 hours straight just to finish it.

Don’t think that’s a huge accomplishment? Well, I was 15 years old at the time. I’ve gathered my favourite 7 quotes from the books down below, with the purpose of not only inspiring you for today but to hopefully inspire you to read the books yourself, if you haven’t done it already.

Trust me, these are no children books! They might seem that way, but in reality, they reflect life, with love, hate, suffering and joy in the most brutal and honest way possible. They simply have no flaws.

1. Harry Potter and the Philosper’s Stone

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.”

Most of the times you know your enemies briefly. But with friends, you know and respect and want to protect them in the noblest way possible. So when it comes to confronting them, to let them know why they might be wrong or why they did you wrong, that’s when you must show real bravery.

2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are far more than our abilities.”

This is the ultimate quote when it comes to life itself. You can be the best writer, or actor, or businessman and have the most success in the world, but if you choose to be a bad person, to show no respect and no love to anyone, your life is as empty as a used can of soda.

3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

This is an amazing quote especially for those who are going through hard times, loss, anger, depression or any kind of mental struggles. The author herself went through these things and she’s right. It’s your choice at any given moment, no matter how you feel, to switch on the light or not.

4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

This book has so many amazing quotes, as it treats the subjects of death and loss by the end when one of the characters gets murdered. It was hard to choose one but I made up my mind to the one below.

“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”

This quote needs no further explanation. It’s just simple, straightforward and true, and we should all read it especially when we have a fight with someone.

5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix

“Thoughts could leave deeper scars than almost anything else.”

Wounds usually heal. The deeper the wound, the harder it is for your body to heal it. Yet it does heal it. But the body can’t heal a wound it can’t touch, therefore an emotional wound is almost impossible to heal. All you can do is learn to live with it and the pain decreases, but unfortunately, it might take up to a lifetime to completely vanish.

6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

“It is the unknown we fear when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.”

Fear is what puts us into the freezing state, especially if we’re talking about our own lives. But fearing death is like fearing life itself because one could never come without the other. Death might be terrifying, but it’s natural.

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

“Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and, above all those who live without love.”

Best.Quote.Ever. I mean, is there a better sentence than this one in the entire series? I guess not. This is the ultimate quote to remember when dealing with grief for a dead friend or family member. They’re gone, they could never be suffering or hurting ever again, and if they loved and were loved in their lives, then everything will be fine in the end.
