Fast Sundays 27: Rebooting

Day 189/365: Going back to work is hard as hell!

Lake Bodensee, I so much miss you and the view you’re offering…

After an awesome holiday in which I took a life-changing decision to move out of my country and visited some crazy places, including the tragic Dachau Nazi camp, I should feel refreshed and ready for work, right?

No.

Rebooting starts from the moment you step out of the plane and leave the airport for your drive back home. Until then, it’s all about visiting, eating, drinking and catching up with friends and family. It’s all fun.

This, the actual rebooting part, the Sunday before the first work week, this is the hard part. This is the part nobody talks about in their freelancing courses you spend thousands of dollars on. This is the ugly bit nobody tells you about.

Getting over the “end of the holiday” weekend

I myself am dreading this weekend before the start of the work week. If it were for me, I’d just go into work straight ahead, but I can’t do that because my clients are also off for the weekend and I have nobody to work with. Plus, it’s summer break and most good clients are nowhere to be found.

Luckily I do have two great clients that I’m going to be working with starting from tomorrow. I’ll also start some whale hunting, as my last two big projects on Upwork ended while I was away. It’s hard when you have to reboot, and reboot for real, because you can feel the pressure.

What if I can’t get a new big client?
What if I’ll lack motivation and inspiration?
What if I can’t make my deadlines from now on?

These are just simple voices in your head, anxious voices, which are totally normal coming back to work after an awesome 2-weeks break. Let them shout and scream and, starting Monday morning, wake up and simply do your thing. It’s as easy as it sounds and it does work.

Happy Sunday! I’ll get back to my reading and occupy my mind with something useful before it goes full merciless on me and forces me to do some work, even if I have none on hold :)
