Day 21/365: Enjoy the little things in a big way

Enjoy Sundays

“A Sunday well spent brings a week of content”

Spend quality time with family, with friends and relatives. Play games or have lunch together. Stay with each other, catch up on events and plan out new adventures. Listen to people, try and understand their fortunes, but also their mistakes and mishaps. Don’t be judgemental, show compassion and joy.

Enjoy a movie

Turn your phone off. Set up your TV and watch a favourite of yours. Really try and be aware of every single line, of every single character and every single scene. Go into the story and feel the action. Try to capture everything that you can from the movie, really look beyond the characters and try to make sense of the general artistic value of it. Learn something valuable from it.

Enjoy a meal

Cook a delicious meal and share it with your loved ones. Make something that you’ve never done before, a surprise to you and them. Make it look nice, as if it were served in a 5 stars place. Make it with fresh ingredients, good quality protein and delicious sides. And above all, sprinkle a little love over the final dish, which will really make it stand out. People trully feel love in food.

How many times did you forget to enjoy something that you were doing, even if you were doing that thing? Like reading a book, watching a movie or having lunch with family? How do you enjoy the little things? It really is easy!

Enjoy reading a book

Set aside time for reading, especially during the weekend. Sit comfortably in your favourite chair, take a deep breath and open the book. Block out all distractions, turn everything off but a good source of white light. Read by the window if possible. Emerge completely in the book, look for good lines and then read them again and even write them down for future reference.

Enjoy a walk

Walks are mandatory for me. I take long walks as much as I can. During my weekends, I always go for walks regardless of the weather. Dress well so you don’t catch a cold and then go for it. Enjoy the sidewalks, the people, the trees, the river that might be flowing around your path, the birds and the sky.

In the end, you are the one that you should enjoy the most. You are who matters the most to you, whether you realised it or not yet. Take time to enjoy yourself, to like and appreciate yourself for your accomplishments. And of course, to forgive yourself for your failures and mistakes. You’re just an imperfect human in an imperfect world, so stop being harsh with yourself.
