Getting Ready For The 365 Days Writing Challenge, Starting January 1st, 2018

Day -1: Writing one article per day for a year? Dude, you’re nuts!

It came to me one day, during some class assignment. I was learning about how our minds learn through repetition. Constant, uninterrupted repetition is how we, as humans, tend to be and stay good at something, but only if we’re doing that something over and over again, preferably every single day.

My blogging “career” was always inconsistent. I’ve had months when my blogs were up in the hights of celebrity. My posts were read by thousands upon thousands of people and appreciated and shared by hundreds.

“Blogging is hard because of the grind required to stay interesting and relevant” — Sufia Tippu

At the same time, I was having months when nobody read my stuff. The quality of what I was putting out there was usually the same, sometimes better, sometimes worse, but the fact of the matter was not too many people were interested in what I was publishing. Something was wrong, so, a few days ago, I abandoned my old travel blog.

I am ready for a new challenge

I love challenges. In fact, I am addicted to them. In order to get better at writing, blogging and everything that reads online content, written content, that is, I’m starting a “365 days writing challenge” here on Medium. I’ll be writing one article every single day, starting January 1st, and I’ll never measure my success by the normal standards, but only looking forward to fulfilling one single, ultimate goal.

My sole goal is to finish the challenge, to simply write 365 articles by December 31st, 2018.

Some days I’ll write better, and some, worse. Some articles will be long, incisive, interesting and detailed. Some will be bad, short, sort of like literally scribbling a marking sign on a long list of days that need to be marked out. But I’ll hit that Publish button 365 times, and that’s all that matters.

Consistency will be my ultimate goal, not quality, not message, not even earning something from it. If that happens, if the quality is appreciated, and I’ll look to put out good quality stuff, if the message is received, and I’ll do my best to clear it out and if I’ll earn something from it all, then great!

My goal is to prove to myself that I can do something consistently for the next 365 days, regardless of changing environments, outside situations and other variables. I’m mentally getting ready for the task and, although I know it won’t be easy, I am also aware of the fact that it’s possible.

And for me, that’s all I need to know to succeed!
