Here’s Why I Changed My Website

Day 302/365: It costs 0,5% a month of the previous one…

I have nothing against prepaid, all-in-one services. I use them all the time. For example, I get unlimited data, texts, calls and all for 5 bucks a month, and the service, although is an all-in-one deal, works beautifully.

The same happened to my website on Wix. For those of you who don’t know, I ran my personal website on Wix for about nine months. The service ran smoothly, the site was never down and the overall experience of creating my website with nothing but drag&drop tools was easy-peasy.

But the price? That’s where I started having problems with it. Besides the initial $60 paid for the setup and the domain, the site used to charge me $25 a month for hosting. That is absolutely crazy for me and I’m still wondering as to why I stood with this price for so long?!

I have now transferred the domain to my local Wordpress host. I pay 1,5 dollars U.S. per month for hosting. I paid another 10 bucks for the transfer. I got a simple, reliable and fast theme from the free Wordpress themes catalogue. I even got an SEO plug-in and made some changes to add some personal touches to the site.

The website is now much simpler, has a blog feel to it and runs like a charm although the entire thing cost’s me a fraction of the price it usually costed me per month. I mean, you can’t get Starbucks with that kind of money. Heck, you can’t even get McDonald's for that little money.

The point of this article is, cut on your expenses whenever you find it possible. It’s useless to have a $25-a-month website if you just have 1000 visitors on it. Those 1000 visitors can be accommodated with a $5 hosting service.

You can spend the rest of the 25 bucks for advertising your site, buying two books to read about how to grow your business or paying for another service you’re using on a monthly basis.

It might not look like a lot of money, but these expenses add up and, at the end of the year, you’ll be left wondering where did all that money vanish? Well, take a closer look at your expenses and, wherever possible, cut on them with no mercy.
