Day 190/365: Mastering acceptance turns into bliss!

People say we should let go, accept the things we can’t control and be ok with the hard times because they do pass. And it’s all true. Resisting change and not accepting the harsh periods is only going to be making you miserable. Instead, accepting the unacceptable is healthy and makes things much easier.

But… how do you do it?

Really, how do you accept the unacceptable? Nobody talks about how you do these things, but just throw them out there, like we’re all specialists in acceptance and can do it without as much as a “how do you do?”

Acceptance comes from within

The truth is, you can’t learn acceptance. It rather comes from within. You need to go through a lot of trial and error in order to be able to accept things the way they are. In order to be able to take a step back and simply let things be, without having the constant urge to change them.

“I can’t accept having to move to another city. I can’t deal with having less money this week. I can’t accept the fact he/she dumped me. I can’t accept me being sick”

These are things that happen to us and, after some time, can’t be changed. The only thing left for us to do then is to accept them. The faster and more things like these we get to accept, the easier it will be for us to not grieve over the impossibility of changing these crappy things.

They’re all natural, which means accepting them should also be natural as well. It’s only foolish to try and change the unchangeable, which makes accepting the unacceptable the logical, right solution.

Accepting life the way it is is done one step at a time, one event at a time, one past misery at a time, never in bulk or in a fast-paced manner. It’s done through trial and error that can take you years of practice. But when you’ll master it, you’ll be the most rewarded person on Earth.

Accepting the unacceptable is the key to a happy life.
