How To Travel To Any City In Europe For $100 Or Less

Day 209/365: All you need is… well, 100 bucks!

Budapest, Hungary

Last week, I’ve travelled to Budapest for a night. It’s not enough to just have one afternoon and one morning in a city like Budapest, but for all intents and purposes, it’s a lot more than nothing and frankly, it costs less than $100!

That’s if you catch your train, of course.

Especially if you’re living in a Central European country, like Germany, Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands or even France or Italy, you can actually travel to any city on the continent for under 100 bucks.

You’ll need a lot of resilience to stay on a train or bus for long periods of time, being open to sleeping in a cheaper hotel or a couch and eating at local restaurants or take-out spots, but rather than that, you can do it with ease.

Flixbus/Train

The first thing you need to sort out is how can you get to your destination. This is doable by taking the bus, which comes from a company called Flixbus. You can basically get from one part of the continent to the other with $50 or less. Let’s see how much some of the tickets for next week are between some big European cities.

Bodensee Lake, Germany

Budapest-Vienna — $10;

Vienna-Munich — $25;

Munich-Berlin — $29;

Munich-Amsterdam — $50;

Rome-Venice — $26;

Paris-Lyon — $22;

Sure, you can always compare these prices with the ones of busses, but for a short city break, these are the most profitable rates without a doubt. Flixbus busses are reliable, clean, have free Wi-Fi on board and power sockets on each seat. They’re great, to be honest.

Accommodation

Right, now that you got to your destination, it’s time to get a room for the night. Booking.com is your best bet, as you can filter your preferences for price, property type and so on. You can find great places like small hotels, pensions or private apartments throughout Europe.

Munich, Germany

Prices start from 25 bucks for a single room to $50 for a great double-bed room with private bathroom. The more you look for your ideal room, the better your chances to find one before you leave your house.

If you’re the adventurous type, you can try sites like Couchsurfing.com or even post some accommodation requests on Instagram and tag the city you’re travelling to. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a host who’s willing to host you for free for the night. That’s more possible than you think!

Food

You have about 30 bucks left, which account for food, local transport and other expenses. Eat from local eateries, as that’s where you’ll find the best prices. Also, if you’re very low on money, Chinese and Turkish restaurants do exist in most European cities.

London, United Kingdom

You’ll grab a large, fulfilling dinner at one of these for 5 bucks or less, but you’ll go to sleep full and satisfied. Don’t be afraid to eat in cheap places. They’re more often than not safe and run by families coming from all over the globe, which makes their places unique and authentic.

I can help you with some more information about how to travel for little money. If you have any questions, shoot me with a comment, an Instagram message or an email. I’ll replay as soon as possible!
