Moving Out At Age 26

Day 247/365: I’m now comfortable with moving out

Moving out is one of the 18 to-dos of my 2018. It’s one of the very last ones that’s not yet done, but it’s about to become a reality. In a month and some days from now, exactly on my birthday, October 15th, I’ll be moving out of my parent’s house and into my own place.

I’ll move into a totally different city, but I’m still not ready to be leaving my country just yet. Maybe when I’ll be more prepared, both financially, mentally and physically, I’ll do the big step then. For now, though, I’m comfortable with moving out and just start it from there.

People ask me how’s it like moving out at 26. The thing is, there “moving out” tradition in European countries is not that direct and demanding than the one in the US. Young adults are comfortable with moving out, but they usually do it after finishing college and after finding a good job.

I have a freelancing business that I’m doing full-time now and it’s gotten good enough so that I can live out of it on my own. I have enough confidence to start taking care of myself all by myself, which is a hard enough thing. I am now ready to do it and happy to be taking this step forward.

I’m comfortable with it.

It took me some extra years to do this step, but it’s important to feel comfortable with the stuff that you do, no matter how old you are, what’s your status and whether people are talking behind your back and telling you you’re wasting your time by not taking action.

Do what makes you comfortable. If moving out at 26 makes you comfortable, move out at 26. The rest will follow.
