Physically, I’m A Joke

Day 236/365: I have to go to the gym now…

I was driving around town to buy some tiles for behind the stove. I’m almost done renovating the house, so before putting everything into place, some tiles sounded just right for the wall behind the stove, where most of the splashes will happen from cooking.

I finally found a spot that sold me 3 meters of the tiles I wanted at the reasonable price of about 29 bucks for all of them. The guy who worked there came with the first of the two boxes of tiles to my car and offered to put them in. I, as the Incredible Hulk that I am, took the box and put it in myself.

All good, as I lifted with my hands at first. The second box around, I did the idiotic mistake of lifting with my back, not realising that a box of tiles, even a small one, is kind of heavy. I heard a pop in my back and a shivering pain dripped down on both sides of my back.

“I pulled my back, if that’s the correct term, from loading some tiles in the trunk of my car” — Gabriel Iosa

The moral of the story is, I’m simply a joke if we’re talking physical condition here. I am down with one or two bike rides a week at most, I do no weights, I do no house chores and my overall weight is way over the limits.

I haven’t been in such a bad physical shape in years. I’ve always been a little overweight, but I’d always do biking, light jogging and a lot of chores around the house. And now here I am, Friday morning, with the cruelest back pain in my recent history, not being able to lift a box of tiles.

At least I’m in a good place mentally…
