The Best $30 I Have Ever Spent

Day 81/365: All you need is a ticket and some popcorn, you’re set

“Prince Ali, mighty is he, Ali Ababwaaa” got stuck in my head, as many of the verses in the musical did. Going to a musical on the West End was yet another one of my Bucket List items.

To be able to experience what true theatre is like was a blast, and the fact that the whole show cost less than $30 is simply a rip-off. I went to see Aladdin in London, and it was the best money I’ve ever spent on entertainment since the release of “Harry Potter”.

The theatre is located in the heart of the West End, which is the equivalent of Broadway in Europe. Our seats were very high up in the Grand Circle, in the second to last row, but that never bothered us, because the view was perfect. The changing of decors, the costumes, the energy, special effects, and of course, the music, everything was simply magical.

“Like so many things it is not what’s on the outside, but what’s on the inside that counts” — The Genie

Aladdin focuses on the story of a young hustler from the city of Agrabah, too poor to not steal from the market and too lazy to work for his money. He gets into trouble but is saved by the villain of the story, who asks him to go into the Cave of Wonders to retrieve a magical lamp.

By mistake, Aladdin gets trapped in the cave and summons the genie. He asks him to make Princess Jasmine fall in love with him, and the genie makes him into a prince. Easier said than done, but you know, he’s a genie…

The story is filled with twists and turns and extremely funny. The London cast is simply amazing, and in my humble opinion, the West End genie is miles over the Broadway one, not that the New York one is not amazing because he really is as well. The musical is simply genie-us!

If you ever have the chance to see such a play, definitely go and see it. It will blow your socks off and you’ll leave the theatre levitating with joy.

Simply put, Aladdin was pure Disney magic!
