The Importance Of Vacations

Day 174/365: I’m going on a trip and not just because it’s the summer break…

I’m getting my suitcase stuffed and ready for a 2-weeks trip around Bavaria, Switzerland and maybe some bits and pieces of Northern France. It’s not really my decision to take my summer vacation now, but my cousin is getting married and he’s staying close to Munich, which makes this the perfect opportunity for travel and catching up with the family.

Taking a vacation once in a while is crucial for both your mental and physical well-being. On as far as mental health goes, I did great this year. I kept my focus much easier than ever, I had a great mental power to go through even the most demanding tasks and I never really felt burned out or struggling.

For my physical health though, I’m really struggling with a back and neck pain for months now. My fear is it’s going to become chronic, but as far as my counter-attack against it goes, I really can’t do much.

I have a comfortable chair, a great mattress and a good pillow, so that’s that. Unfortunately, I do spend a lot of time at my desk and in an uncomfortable position, but I can’t give up on my job.

Vacation for your body

This is why taking a vacation is so important for both your bodies, the spiritual and the physical ones. I need to detach from this position that I’m sitting in right now, as I’m writing this post and have been in most days, for hours on end. I need to let go of the concentration and just free my body and mind to do and see new things.

To explore some Bavarian cities and villages. To eat some pretzels. To get extremely drunk on some meter-long beers. To dance in some bar until I can’t feel my legs. To explore some museums, gardens, palaces and castles. To take many pictures and make my Instagram followers jealous of me.

Vacations are not just trips you take because it says so in your contract. Vacations are freeing your body to relax and disconnect, literally relax its muscles and bones and also free the mind to do whatever it wants. To wonder and be amazed at the things it sees.

I’m ready for the trip now! Don’t worry, I have about 10 pre-written, really cool articles for you to read while I’m away, so the challenge goes on uninterrupted. No worries there, thank you!
