Things Can Go Wrong While Travelling

Day 204/365: Or, how I missed my train in Budapest and had to pay a small fortune to get back home…

Buda Castle, quite stunning!

Travel is mostly awesome. It's a liberating activity, a relaxing experience. It determines you to grow and learn.

But sometimes, travel can make you miss your train, which puts a damper on the whole trip.

Budapest Keleti Train Station, a marvelous building!

My train was supposed to leave Budapest at 15:30 yesterday. I got to the station at 15:03 just to find out that my train, which for some mystical reason was leaving at 15:05 according to the information board, had just left 5 minutes ago, at about 14:58 again, for reasons that will remain a mystery.

The next train towards Romania left an hour later, but it only travelled from Budapest to Oradea, a town 200 kilometres away from my home.

We paid about 65 bucks for the tickets, then had to get a hotel for the night and also another batch of train tickets that got us to Timisoara, from where my mum was close enough to be able to give us a ride home.

The River Danube crosses through Budapest and you can actually take a boat to enjoy it in all it’s beauty!

The hotel plus the train ride and my mom's gas cost us about 90 bucks, which is almost as much as the entire weekend in splendind Budapest getaway.

Kind of an expensive adventure, if you'd ask me, but definitely one to remember. The idea is, shit happens not only in life but also when you peacefully travel from one place to the other.

I literally have 2 bucks in my pockets now. I hope I'll not need any repairs for my car or something because that would be pretty bad news. Yet, it was a fun weekend and an adventure in it’s own expensive, fast-paced, confusing way!
