Trains, And Why I Love Them

Day 195/365: Going on train rides? Number one fun activity for me, without a doubt!

I don’t care about the fact that Romania has the slowest trains on the planet. I don’t care they’re even slower than the American trains. I only care about riding them. Last night, I called a private firm that just popped up in our country. I wanted to go to the Black Sea for the weekend, but the sleeper cars were packed with people.

Which is great! People get back to trains, especially good, clean and affordable ones, to travel, which is nothing but encouraging for the national company to start reinforcing the tracks. Trains are the most superb mode of transportation, being one of the most used in countries like Italy, Spain, Germany or the UK.

I got to ride trains in Italy, England and Germany as of last weeks. I rode the Frecciargento bullet train in Italy, the ICE high-speed train in Germany and the Stansted Express in the UK. I also rode plenty of trains in my country, which are not that fast or great, but still, they’re trains, and I love them.

The best thing about riding trains is the peaceful environment. I read more on the train from Ravensburg to Munich, about 3 and a half hours of a ride, then I did in my whole 2-week Germany holiday.

Besides the peace, you get a clean car, air-conditioning that works on most of the carriages and legroom. You simply can’t compare legroom between trains and planes. This, and the fact that they ride them on land makes the train the obvious choice for people who don’t really like heights, dizziness and claustrophobia. I check all of those boxes but still take the plane.

Yet when I have the chance, I always say yes to the train. You should do something this Saturday, or tomorrow morning. Go to the train station, take the first train to anywhere, discover something new in the city you’re travelling to and then take the last train back.

You’ll love it, I promise.

Thank you for your time!
