What Is Your Purpose?
Day 162/365: Can you see the difference between “job” and “purpose”?
There’s one question that has puzzled generations upon generations of smart people. The simple answer mostly lies in the profession one chooses, but that’s just a way to spend your time and get a monetary reward at the end of the month. I call myself a writer, but in the end, it’s just a way for me to get some money and be able to afford to travel, buy a piano now and then and eat some more ice cream.
“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche
“Purpose” and “profession” are two different things. My profession is to write an article based on a brief that my client has previously come up with for me. My purpose is to make sure each and every article that I write is inspiring, motivating and elevating for the reader.
My profession also comes with moral values. It’s important to keep in mind my words could potentially be read by thousands, if not millions of people. This is both extremely exciting and terrifying.
I have to be at the top of the moral ground, because people all races, ages and social statuses read what I write. My profession is to write a good piece, but my purpose is to deliver an article that is morally great.
My purpose is clearly for me to become the best writer I can. Of course, this is directly linked to my profession, as it allows me to practice on my purpose every single day. Writing gives me satisfaction, so it’s great that I can do it both as a job and as a purpose in life.
