FOR NOW — A poem

For now sit further away from me,
for now lie down to sleep if I come home late:
don’t wait excitedly at the door.
If you bring flowers, don’t bring my favourite,
you shouldn’t even know which it is yet.

Sometimes you are
my first thought when I wake up
but this is a secret I keep under the duvet,
and that I possibly say to my reflection in the mirror,
very carefully,
because it’s already a little too real.

Be patient,
it won’t take too long
your care will be absorbed
The inflammation caused by trauma will be reduced,
The blood count will get clear
and my thoughts are not going to roam
dark places without you.
