The “Ally McBeal” theme song accompanied me on my subway commute this week. My co-workers can attest to my unusually perky arrival, which I traced to Vonda Shepard’s Searchin’ My Soul. A line from the essential throwback empowerment mantra is therefore rightfully listed below, alongside the other quotes that will stick with me from this week…parenting tips from Mary Bara, aging gracefully wishes from Amanda Peet and Paul Begala’s assessment of what drives Hillary Clinton.

It’s counterintuitive, but don’t fight the slide.” ~Amanda Peet, Amanda Peet: Why I’ll Never Get Botox, ELLE

5.

“I’ve known Hillary most of my adult life. The thing she relishes most in life is standing up to a bully. I think it drives her foreign policy, it certainly drives her politics. And I’m quite sure she views Donald Trump as a bully.” ~Paul Begala, Super Tuesday 4 Election Coverage — CNN

6.

“‘Taste is an emotion,’ Lee once said, and the emotion conveyed in her living room is one of peaceful refuge.” ~Lee Radziwill in Sam Kashner’s piece, The Complicated Sisterhood of Jackie Kennedy and Lee Radziwill — Vanity Fair

8.

“…Flournoy wasn’t one of the students getting ‘priority attention’ from faculty. ‘But I just love her work so much that I assumed everyone thought the way I did,’ he [instructor Alexander Chee] said. ‘It’s a little sad to me that in some ways that was true — it’s a cautionary tale about people inside of their institutions that they’re taking care of the people that seem to be flying under the radar.’” ~Doree Shafrir, Why America Is Ready For Novelist Angela Flournoy — BuzzFeed

9.

“‘She stays in her lane.’” ~Stylist Phillip Bloch told Julia Ioffe of Melania Trump, Melania Trump on Her Rise, Her Family Secrets, and Her True Political Views: “Nobody Will Every Know”—GQ

10.

“I’ve been searchin’ my soul tonight//I know there’s so much more to life//Now I know, I can shine the light//To find my way back home.” ~Vonda Shepard, Searchin’ My Soul — Ally McBeal Theme Song (obviously)
