“white people”, in the sense you use the expression, “don’t care” for white victims of police brutality because they fear brutality from criminals more than they fear the police. They do care about their own lives and the lives of their friends and family, like everyone else. But they need to chose how to care for these lives:
more power to the police
OR
less power to the police
Without making a moral judgement of this, I can really see that to some people taking power away from the police would be better but, to others, giving more power to the police would be best (I mean in the short run because on the long run both these things could go really bad and become dystopian movies — like a Philip K. Dick police state or anarchy in a zombie movie)
What interests me more is another question: why do some white privileged people defend the idea of taking power away from the police? I mean, really and truthfully why do they want this? Maybe it is just because its “fair”, but we should explore the other possibilites.
- they are lieing and just want attention, fame, the pleasure of public speaking, money, etc.
- they like drugs and have friends who like drugs, while at the same time leaving in safe areas with privatized protection from security guards and other non-police entities
- they are “talking out of their ass” and dont really think about whats actually better for them or for others, but are just repeating ideas around
do you see other options, or what do you think about this sort of questioning?
