Did NordVPN and Protonmail violate GDPR and US privacy laws by doxing VPN affiliate?
Story has been very shit storm lately with Reddit turning into a trollfest. And its easy to see, right?
Basically, the TLDR is PIA CEO posted some controversial facts about NordVPN/Proton companies. From there, a few blogs and news outlets covered the news, but I guess after some pressure from NordVPN/ProtonVPN companies, all of these blogs removed the news…
One of these first bloggers who removed the article about Nord and Proton, seemes to be getting the attention lately from Proton and Nord companies. I did quite a bit of digging in the Reddit rabbit hole and found some really sketchy shit that is only getting worse.
Basically, I found a link of reddit posts / comments doxing YouTuber “Tom Spark” who has a website best10vpn.com and has been accused of being a Torguard employee. I found a comment yesterday showing the story here:

You can click the picture for link to the story and how this started? Or see here:

It started off from an anonymous acc with no comment or post history posting the blogger’s real name on reddit. This user profile had a history of promoting ExpressVPN. Originally, Protonmail claimed that “ExpressVPN” gave them the bloggers name. However, today actually, ExpressVPN came out officially on Reddit saying this:

From here Protonmail accounts starting citing this comment from the anonymous user as “factual” evidence that this blogger is tied to another website that is still covering news, called VPNScam.com. Proton accuses that Blogger Tom Spark or “Kevin Vadala” are behind VPNScam, but also somehow tied to Torguard VPN?
From looking at vpnscam site, I can’t find any information connecting Tom Spark to that site. The site has a different conspiracy tone even in writing, but no owner info or hint of who runs it. Best10vpn on the other hand promotes a number of VPNs like ExpressVPN, Torguard, NordVPN, IPVanish, and Private Internet Access.
Now thanks to protonmail, the blogger’s personal name, and family facebook pictures are being circulated on NordVPN affiliated blogs and on protonmail’s reddit by official protonmail reps.
The important question for me is, how did Proton originally get the YouTuber’s name? It seems too easy considering the blogger is a NordVPN affiliate and Protonmail customer.
And, why would a company that supports privacy choose to dox their own VPN affiliate and protonmail customer on reddit?
Unfortunately, I would almost say this story is worse than Tesonet data mining scandal linked to Nord. Why? Well fact is, they violated their own privacy policy. And a company that is supposed to protect user privacy should never willingly disclose a customer’s name on reddit just because they don’t agree with blog posting.
What do you think?
