Your title drew me in. I’m always skeptical about throwing money at a perceived problem — especially in situations where we may not even understand a culture or situation. Sometimes I think our perceptions of how we think others should live (exactly like us) do more harm than good.
We have a friend who spends time in Mexico and central America with some families who have children that cycle — he has two daughters that cycle professionally. He tells stories about the close knit family units he stays with and how the kids are thrilled with the bikes he’s been able to fix up for them when he visits — bare bones. Money and top of the line “stuff” does not always mean happiness.
Now digging a well for clean drinking water — that matters. ;)
