Roger, Thank you for your observation about some of the problems with the current system. There is so much to learn in medicine that lends itself to specializations that are isolating. I imagine it would be extremely difficult for a generalist to have up-to-date knowledge about a specialization; however, I completely agree that some integration needs to happen. I am aware that functional medicine specialists attempt to understand the whole person. As a former patient of mine once stated: "I have to be the CEO of my own health." A lot falls on the patient, unfortunately, to be on top of what's going on. Thank you again.
