For me, being “female” at birth is certainly more possible than being a “girl” or “woman” at birth. That’s because “female” — in my use at least — denotes physical traits, and some of those are most definitely present at birth. However, even saying you’re “female” requires interpretation and picking/privileging specific traits in order to come to a conclusion — regardless of whether you’re cis or trans) Hence the “assigned _______ at birth” issue.
For most trans folks, saying that we were female (or male etc.) from birth is something that we do after we have already been assigned, based on our own interpretation of “sex” and the specific sex we believe we are.
That said, I would gladly take the “wait and see” approach with both “sex” and “gender,” and let people self-discover these things and what they mean for themselves.
I do, at the very least, agree with the sentiment that it was never correct for people to think I was male.
