A fall ends the fairy tale: Otte fails to Berrettini
Oscar Otte had already kept two Italians from the tournament on his way to the second round with Lorenzo Sonego (number 20 of the set list) and Andreas Seppi. Now, with Matteo Berrettini, another player from the country of the European Football Champion — and the 25-year-old was also a househous favorite. After all, qualifier Otte is only number 144 of the world.
But the German put a decent start, the match stopped at first — and resisted resistance. Against Berrettiini strong forehand, which this plays again and again with an enormous pace, and his brachial surcharge found Otte but no suitable means. At the booth of 3: 3, the Cologne conceded a break and Berrettini brought set one loose into dry cloths.
OTTE goes into the risk — and equals after sentences
Through two, however, then started with a bang: Otte first brought through his service and briefly had breathball. Then the German used immediately — with a high-risk ball Longins. Suddenly, the Wimbledon finalist was demanded, but an answer remained, even because Otte did not have any flows at his own premium — so it was 1: 1 after 71 minutes.

At the beginning of sentence four suddenly the next breakchance for Otte, Berrettini then made the point but then — with a backhand Longline. Otte played at eye level, and Berrettini had to fight as in the rounds previously against Corentin (3: 1) and Ilya Ivashka (3: 2) fight — and he struggled, pushed himself and also took the audience. An early break handed him to the 6: 3 set win.
With a fall the game is decided
In the sentence break, Otte shook his head even longer before disappointment than the yellow felt ball again flew, the focus was there. In a challenging overhead ball, however, Otte plunged velvet back roller and then treated himself at the stand of 1: 1 on the right hand. From then on, the qualifier could not build on his previously shown performance. Visibly handicaps, the surcharge speed fell noticeable, also the safety in the open game suffered.
When it was 2: 3, he asked again for a treatment, shortly thereafter, it was clear: it would not be enough. With 4: 6, 6: 3, 3: 6 and 2: 6 ended a hitherto fairy-style Grand Slam tournament for Otte. Sales around a quarter of a million euros prize money concedes the Cologne as a comfort paving, while Berrettini reached the quarterfinals with slight problems.
A very strong gesture of the Italian should be mentioned: In the last ball changes of the match, he applauded his brave opponent and animated the audience to tribute for his fancy will.
