~~ Andaman and Nicobar Island Capital:- Port Blair is the capital of Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar islands, and is located on East coast of South Andaman island.

~~ Andaman and Nicobar Island Location:- Andaman and Nicobar island is a Union Territory of India consisting of 572 islands, of which 37 are inhabited at the junction of Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

~~ Andaman and Nicobar Island Airport:- Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair.

~~ Andaman and Nicobar Island Language:- Andamanese, Hindi, Bengali, English, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam.

5 Must-Visit Places in Andaman and Nicobar Island

1) PORT BLAIR:-

~ Famous for:- Freedom struggle, History, Nature.

~ Major Attraction:- Cellular jail.

~ Ideal Visit Duration:- 1 day.

Port Blair is the capital of Andaman and Nicobar islands, and the Cellular Jail here is one of the most infamous, but highlighted reminder of the many sacrifices of freedom fighters. The construction of this jail was such that, the face of each cell only saw the back of cell opposite to it, and the main motive of this prison was solitary confinement of the prisoners.

2) NEIL ISLAND:-

~ Famous for:- Corals, Adventure sports, Beaches.

~ Major Attraction:- Bharatpur beach, and Laxmanpur beach.

~ Ideal Visit Duration:- 1 day.

Neil Island is also known as the “Coral Capital of Andaman”, due to the beauty of coral reefs and white shores here. Best time to visit this beach is morning/ evening, when you can either go for snorkeling, or just simply sit across the shore and indulge yourself in the calm and cool sea breeze to soothe your senses.

3) HAVELOCK ISLAND:-

~ Famous for:- Beaches

~ Major Attraction:- Radhanagar beach.

~ Ideal Visit Duration:- 1 day.

Havelock Island is home to Radhanagar beach, which is one of the must-visit beach located around 12km from the Havelock islands. The serene environment amidst the sparkling blue waters here, makes it the ideal hangout place for couples. There is a wide range of activities you can indulge in like- scuba diving, boating, fishing, snorkeling, and also elephant rides.

4) ROSS ISLAND:-

~ Famous for:- Penal Colonial ruins

~ Major Attraction:- Indian Penal Colony

~ Ideal Visit Duration:- Half a day

Ross Island is famous for the ruins of Penal Colony that preeceds the Cellular jail, or “Kaala Paani”. It is believed that the jail was used to incarcerate many notable political prisoners from India’s struggle to independence, the remains of which, can till date be seen in these islands. Due to this picturesque location, Ross island becomes one of the most important tourist destinations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

5) THE GREAT NICOBAR ISLAND:-

~ Famous for:- Ecological Hotspot, Nature and Wildlife.

~ Major Attraction:- Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve, Indira Point.

~ Ideal Visit Duration- 1 day.

This is one of the sparsely populated, but largest of the Nicobar islands in India. It is well known for it’s rainforest, that houses a diverse wildlife, and it is also a part of the World Biosphere Reserve. Another distinctive feature of this island is that, it contains one of the oldest indigenious tribe in the world, called “Shompen”. The Campbell Bay is also a must-visit place with an ecosystem of wild flora and fauna.
