The final match between long-time rivals John Cena and The Rock ended with a whimper instead of a bang. It was a repeat of Wrestlemania 28 with way too many kicking-out-of-finishing moves. Many fans felt the way I did that it was an unappealing joke and a less interesting rehash of their former match. I wish it was exciting but sadly it was not. The one move that Cena pulled off was to catch The Rock in a crossbody pose and then lift him over his shoulders. Seeing Cena pull this move on The Rock, who is a bigger man, was impressive but it was overall a dull night of wrestling. Watch them in Action

One of the most significant rivalries that the WWE has seen within its long history is the rivalry between The Rock and John Cena. Both these iconic superstars have gained an enormous following and have made careers for themselves in the industry as well as outside of it. Their feud continues to be talked about extensively as it has changed the face of the company forever.

The rivalry dates back to 2011 with The Rock making a surprise return to Monday Night Raw after almost seven years away and revealing that he would be the host of Wrestlemania 27. The Rock criticized Cena for being a wannabe wrestler. The next week, Rock called out Cena, insulting him for the bright colors he wore and making fun of his famous catchphrase “You Can’t See Me.” The Rock’s goal was to put Cena in his place so that the Rock could reclaim the top spot and be the face of the company. This set the stage for the grandest show of the year, Wrestlemania, sparking the beginning of this historic rivalry between two wrestlers that continued to grow.

In the end, The Rock was victorious at Wrestlemania 28, defeating Cena in what was dubbed the “once in a lifetime” match. Even though Cena may have lost, the following night on TV, he claimed that the Rock didn’t beat him but that he beat himself. Their rivalry didn’t end there. After Cena’s loss, he was determined to get his revenge against The Rock, and he got the opportunity at Wrestlemania 29. Cena defeated The Rock and won his 11th WWE Championship title. It was a significant victory because it marked the end of a very intense, long-standing rivalry between these two iconic superstars. It would have been a spectacular win had it not been for less than stellar performances by both The Rock and Cena.
