That really depends on how quickly you want to get it out.

I have an 85k word novel that has been under consideration from an agent since…June, I believe. Once an agent accepts it, then they have to find a publishing house to buy it, and from what I understand, it’s a year or two after THAT that they finally publish.

Whereas self-publishing, you can do it immediately. (This is the route I’m considering, personally.)

There’s also the advertising that traditional publishing houses can provide, but from what I understand from my author friends, they’re scaling back on that unless you’re James Patterson or John Grisham, so you’d end up doing a lot of your own promotional stuff anyway.
