About EigenLayer:
EigenLayer is a restaking protocol built on ethereum, enabling a new primitive in crypto economic security. It allows users to re-stake tokens that are locked up to validate ethereum, so that those tokens can be used to validate and secure other protocols. EigenLayer currently runs on devnet and is involved in onboarding initial partner protocols. The launch of EigenLayer will be phased in three stages:
Stage 1: Stakers — where stakers will be onboarded into restaking on EigenLayer
Stage 2: Operators — where node operators will be onboarded and can receive delegation from restakers
Stage 3: Services — where the first actively validated services on EigenLayer will be onboarded
The current launch of the Stage 1 testnet is built on the Ethereum Goerli network.
So here is how you can test EigenLayer on it’s Stage 1 testnet:
-step1- Select and get ETH faucet on Ethereum Goerli
-step2- Convert Goerli ETH to rETH and stETH
-step3- Restake on EigenLayer
Step1: Select and get ETH faucet on Ethereum Goerli:
- Select Goerli chain on your EVM wallet
- Get gETH from faucet: Alchemy (should have atleast 0.001ETH on mainnet)| Mine from pk910 | Paradigm (0.001gETH every 24hrs)| Mudit
Skip step 1 if you already have Goerli ETH
Step2: Convert Goerli ETH to rETH and stETH:
a) To convert Goerli ETH to rETH:
- Go to: https://testnet.rocketpool.net/
- And stake ETH to get rETH
(Note: If rETH pool is full, please skip this step and complete rest of the steps)
b) To convert Goerli ETH to stETH:
Send any amount of your Goerli ETH to the stETH token contract address. Eg. send 0.01 Goerli ETH to get 0.01 stETH.
- Open your wallet
- Click SEND
- Paste: 0x1643E812aE58766192Cf7D2Cf9567dF2C37e9B7F
- On Metamask click “ I Understand”
- Enter the amount you want to send & confirm the transaction
Once the transaction is successful, you will get stETH in your wallet instantly.
Step3: Restake on EigenLayer:
- Go to: https://goerli.eigenlayer.xyz
- Open “Rocket Pool Ether” and “Lido Staked Ether” one by one and restake your rETH and stETH.
- You can restake rETH on Rocket Pool Ether and stETH on Lido Staked Ether.
Done!!! You’ve successfully used the EigenLayer’s Stage 1: Stakers phase.
