Again I know way more about Bates than Bowdion but Bates pays adjuncts significantly better than public schools in California do. A friend who went to Bates, then grad school at the same UC I did (didn’t meet her until we both lived here) ended up going back to Bates to teach because they paid her so much better AND the cost of living was so much less.

I have another friend who did the same thing at Smith before she ended up with a tenure track position in Canada.
