What is it?

It’s pronounced like “eye-sec” and it is an abbreviation in French for “Association internationale des étudiants en sciences économiques et commerciales”. Known as the World’s Largest Youth-Run Organization
for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential. It is a non-political, independent, not-for-profit organisation.
AIESEC does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion or national/social origin.

Who’s involved?

AIESEC is a global network of people who believe that youth leadership is not an option, but a responsibility. Run by students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education. Its members are interested in world issues, leadership and management.
According to AIESEC: “Anyone who believes in the AIESEC vision, supports the mission of AIESEC, and lives by the AIESEC values is a part of the youth leadership movement, and hence is an AIESECer”.

When was it founded?

World War II

AIESEC was established in 1948 after World War II, where seven youth across seven countries had a dream of building cross-cultural understanding across nations. They hoped to change the world, one person and one internship at a time.

As of 2015, AIESEC has since expanded to 127 countries and territories across the globe. AIESEC annually offers over 27,500 leadership positions and delivers over 500 leadership conferences to its membership of over 100,000 student. It is present in over 2,400 universities in its 127 member countries and territories across the globe and its international exchange program that enables over 27,500 students and recent graduates the opportunity to work or volunteer in another country. AIESEC is supported by over 8,000 partner organizations.
