The build process for making a ‘Gold Mouse’ Award.

I’ve not got any of pre-build photos, but I’ll explain the process along with a few photos.

I started with a 120mm x 40mm block and routed a half bull nose edge to give the base a little more celebrity appeal. Once that had been sanded to remove and machine burrs I gave it a coat of the gold spray.

I sprang out my old computer spares box, which has loads of old Cat5e cables and network ports etc. For the centre I wanted something with good presence and also something that was going to be stable, a old printer roller was in there and was just the job, after drilling a 12mm hole it i the base it fitted very snugly. Next I popped out 6 network female ports and mounted them to the base as shown. Once the ports and main pole was set I mounted the mouse on the top on a attractive angle.

Next up was to wrap the mouse around the centre and work out the length of the old fire-wire cable. Once I`d decided on the placement I glued in place.

Build complete off the to the spray booth #outsidemyshed

Final dust off and clean to remove any hand grease and dirt…then spray gold. Few coats, just do a little at a time and build up a even coat.
