I’ve been using Pinterest for a number of years now. It’s not the first Social Media site you think of when it comes to your sales role, however it has a number of uses that can help you in your role.

Pinterest is a sizable platform to reach desired audiences: With more than 150 million Pinners, Pinterest can help you reach in-demand audiences. According to Ahalogy, 67% of Pinners are under the age of 40, a 27% jump from last year. 54% of women aged 34–55 are on Pinterest — 35% of them have a household income over $100K. Men are joining Pinterest in higher numbers, too. Male monthly users have grown 120% this year. — Pinterest

Here are 6 ways salespeople can utilise Pinterest.

1. Curate Content to Share with your Prospects.

As an image orientated site, Pinterest offers you new ways in which to attract your prospects.

Ok, you don’t want to be sending prospects what you are thinking of buying on your next shopping spree or what you have on your bucket list, however you can curate content related to your industry.

This content could be a blog post, infographic or even a You Tube video. You can share this as a ‘board’ or dip into it and send specific pieces of relevant content to your target market.

Take-Away: Ensure the content is relevant and always read it first. It is easy to pin content without actually reading it. Also, be mindful or sharing the content of a competitor. There’s nothing wrong with highlighting good content, but you don’t want to push your prospect onto another provider.

2. Find your prospects on the platform

Not all your target marketing will be on the platform, but if they are, this may prove a more unusual way to reach out, therefore giving you the advantage. Browse through related content, and then engage using the messaging system or by commenting on a post of theirs.

Take-Away: Always refine your approach. Don’t be too salesy and remember, you are beginning the start of a relationship! Always offer value.

3 — To learn your craft

I keep a Pinterest board full of infographics about Social Selling & Sales.

I refer to this when I am looking to brush up on my Skills, this making me a better sales person! It may be the case that you want to learn more about marketing or say marketing automation. Build a board around this and learn from that too.

You could also share this with your colleagues and peers thus strengthening relationships in your own network. Be a resource to your prospects and colleagues!

Take-Away: Keep your boards up-to-date. Things change quickly so always refresh your boards so you have the most up-to-date knowledge.

4 — Show your Passions (encourage connections)

I use my Pinterest board for personal and professional use. I keep the boards that are personal as private but on a lot of other boards (places I want to visit / football etc), I keep in the public domain.

This gives anyone viewing you the chance to see more about you and likewise allows you to find commonalities about them, that you could use in your approach.

Take-Away: Make sure your other boards are safe to share. Don’t post anything that might be offensive or controversial as this could lose your prospects attention or damage your own reputation.

5 — Drive traffic to your website/blog

If you’ve created a recent blog post pin it to a board. This can and will encourage Pinterest users to click through to your

This can and will encourage Pinterest users to click through to your website/blog and read it.

Take-Away: Use this with both your own content and that of others. Make sure you download the Google Chrome extension to make pinning easy.

6 — To create Sales opportunities

I use this board to curate all things Social Selling. It is made up of over 180 pieces of high-quality Social Selling / Sales content. It’s suitable to share with peers and prospects. Within this, I also have Creation Agency related content and videos of Jack Kosakowski promoting our Social Selling course, SkillsLab. On occasion, this may lead to prospects finding out more and purchasing the course.

This could be a nice tactic for you to use.

Take-Away: As ever, we are not there to sell and be pushy. ALWAYS offer value and use your own promotional content sparingly.

Conclusion:

Pinterest is a versatile site that you can use in multiple ways to help you in your sales role. The audience is ever growing and Pinterest is here to stay. In the future, I will do a follow-up post that dives deeper into tactics and utilising features such as collaboration.
