Hybrid Mobile Apps are Overtaking Native
Matt Netkow

I haven’t read the whole article. But it’s disingenuous to lump in React Native with hybrid apps rendered on webviews. Tried both, prior with Meteor + Cordova and ran into too many rendering and compatibility issues to count. (Android browser is evil and maybe worse than IE of old)

React Native renders with native components and as such, RN apps for all intents and purposes are native apps, with native performance, behaviours and no browser quirks. Just with app logic and data in JavaScript, shared between native platforms (great!) Actual hybrid apps otherwise are not overtaking anything, because apps appropriate for it might as well just be web apps running in normal browsers. With the benefit of not needing an unnecessary app store download. 👎🏼

And with the emergence of PWAs, RIP for actual hybrid apps.
