I sometimes fear that every subsequent generation is less interested in cultural or historical context or references. As a child, I was very aware of them. I may not have understood them at the time, but they definitely conjured odd mental images which I was later able to contextualize. Nowadays, it doesn’t seem kids have any interest in anything that happened before their fourth birthday. Their cultural pool gets shallower every year.
