Let me address a few points for you & other readers, Ron:

First… I am not sure what your larger point actually is!
I would love you to restate it in a short paragraph or so.
(I admit I have not read a great deal of your work)

IF it is “that females have held the power wand in modern families” — I do agree with you. (at least in my lifetime)
(As an totally immature teenage observation, I thought it was so unfair my father spent his entire energy at work, for zero benefit for himself, purely to keep the family in good health, comfort & education… whilst mum swanned around doing whatever she wished)

All my posts are based on actual observation …not academic references.

Background — in my early days I wished to become a scientist (as my younger brothers actually did do) and studied it profusely…. but I became rather disillusioned with our superficial education system, became sidetracked during my late teenage years & as I enjoyed the creativity of building real things, I became a mere boilermaker instead…..with a very keen amateur interest in the sciences.
Post trade study to Ass. dip. eng.

Except for a few tourist trips to Asia, I have always lived in Australia, and am basing my observations on Australians.
(The Asian trips do add a great example of different culture “norms” to Oz ones though!)
Australia has had a very fair & equalitarian set of laws since the 60's…. with relatively high taxes and high social benefits & welfare (rapidly decreasing in recent decades…but not the taxes!)
Australia is fairly unique in that we have a very small population concentrated around the perimeter of the country, with 90% of people living within only seven major cities & surrounding areas within 200 kms — so culture is rather homogeneous…. with a typical political conservative to liberal bias towards the inner city “young urban professional singles”.
Based on very British traditions…. but with almost universal American TV it has slowly “Americanised” our culture — yet the ONLY part of America known to 90% of Ozzies is what they see on bullshit TV programs & Hollywood fairy tales.
Yes most Ozzies under 40yo are just as “idiot box” deluded as everyone else…. some even believe your wwf is a real sport :)
I’ll also add that Australians under 60, have an enormous divorce rate…. like almost everyone I know!

I believe many women since the 60’s feminist era at least, have an internal & unrealised battle between their modern conscious thoughts and their millennia evolved unconscious feelings.
This had lead to their often irrational & confused actions and beliefs….. and results in them doing things for reasons even they do not understand.
(of course this is just generalising, so its not true for all women)

I believe it is this that has lost them the ability to gain much greater political power….(plus my obvious belief in a closed and corrupt “leadership” elite running out any contenders with an ounce of uncorrupted community spirit)

Whilst I was married at 20, I observe young men today reacting to this whole feminist thing with a typical eye toward “what can I get out of it”…and their answer seems to be “freedom!
Freedom from the very thing I observed in my family…..traditional family obligated bondage to work.

This generation of men see themselves using their work $$$ wisely to enjoy themselves…not get bogged down in wasteful “family stuff”.

The jury is out on how they will feel after their mid 30’s or so…. but, as stated, I see plenty of young women lamenting the lack of “marriageable” men — yet I hear no young men complaining of the same in reverse. (certainly not among my nephews, friends sons and young workmates — they are all “playing the field” for all it is worth)
