Build Trust

If you you are a freelancer, building trust is essential to your success. We buy from people we trust. We will pay a premium to work with the person we trust. We can all think of people we trust and those we don’t. Given the option it’s a no brainer — choose the one you trust.

How to build trust

Trust isn’t a given. It must be earned. It’s about making a promise and delivering, consistently. And when you do screw up: Own it. Make no excuses. Make it right and keep moving. Approach every interaction with the attitude of, “are my actions increasing or decreasing my trustworthiness?”

Practical steps you can implement to build trust in your freelancing business

  • Show up early
  • Show up prepared
  • Truly care your work and the person your serving
  • Ask clients/colleagues for testimonials and put them on your website
  • Ask how you can help (anything I can help you with? Message me)
  • Ask how you did and how you can improve
  • Do some free work
  • Put out content that’s valuable to your community
  • Be generous
  • Don’t keep score
  • Become “famous” to your community by being ridiculously good one specific thing
  • Help others succeed
  • Put together a portfolio of past work
  • Be great at what you do and be fun to be around
  • [can you think of more?]
