Are you tired of using the same old language and sentence structures, but unsure of how to add flair and creativity to your work?

Meet Zeugma (ZOOG-muh)!

She is a literary device to use a word in the same sentence with two different meanings. It is often in an unexpected or clever way.

Examples for fiction writing:

  1. “She opened the door and her heart to the stray cat.”
  2. “He caught the ball and the attention of the audience.”
  3. “He lost his coat and his temper.”
  4. “She broke his heart and his record.”
  5. “He counted his blessings and his money.”
  6. “The team won the game and the respect of their opponents.”
  7. “She drank her coffee and his compliments.”
  8. “He held his breath and the door open for her.”
  9. “She ate the pizza and her words.”
  10. “He took her hand and his chances.”
