How David got his name

Most people get their names the old fashioned way. The parents love a certain name like Jimmy, so that’s what they name their child. But David Klinger got his name in one of the more interesting ways a person can be named. Before David was born, his parents had decided to go with the name Phillip, but David’s grandma didn’t like the name, so she figured out a way to get it changed.

“My parents said she had a vision that it should be David,” Klinger said. “My parents knew that wasn’t true, but they didn’t care and went with it.”

David’s sister, Cathrine, ran into the same situation when she was supposed to be named Caroline. But when grandma Klinger doesn’t like a name, her visions always seem to make a well-timed appearance.

Besides David’s name, he is like any ordinary guy. He enjoys spending time with his friends and family. He likes basketball, school when it’s interactive and fun and going to concerts. He recently went to Lollapalooza in Chicago to enjoy several of his favorite bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. If there is one thing about David that may be strange, other than the origin of his name, it’s his dislike for what some consider to be the happiest place in the world.

“I don’t like Disney World,” Klinger said. “Apparently, when I was five I went there and cried the entire time.”

Klinger hasn’t been back to Disney World since.

What Dave has changed his mind on is love for burgers. He started out by not liking them. Then, he started eating them with ketchup and cheese. Now, he likes a variety of burgers and keeps it interesting by ordering whatever the waiter likes the most at each restaurant.

After enjoying a long day of school, basketball and burger tasting, David usually finishes his days by sleeping, which he describes as “waiting for your body to know yourself out.”

“You have to do sleep right so you can be refreshed for the next day,” he said.

David said he doesn’t get his sleeping habits from his grandma.
