The origin story of Google News traces back to the ghastly terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001. I recently finished reading Hacking Growth, a book by, Sean Allis, a Growth Hacking expert who has played a pivotal role in the growth of many tech startups. The book covers structured and scientific frameworks needed to take your startup on a growth path. The author augments these frameworks with the real-life examples of how some of the today’s iconic companies (Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, SurveyMonkey, etc.) hacked their way to the growth in their early years of existence.

Amazon popularized the “Customers Also Bought” recommendation system. If you’ve been to any product page on Amazon, you must have seen “Customers Also Bought” section showing products that other customers must have purchased/looked at when they bought this specific product.

This feature solves two problems — one for the customers and the other for the Amazon. For customers, it addresses the issue of Discovery as Amazon has more than 600 million products listed on its platform. For Amazon, it helps addresses the perennial question of “how to sell more?” and thus increase AOV (Average Order Value).
