Tidbit: Gratitude

Taking time off, traveling and staying with family and friends served as a gentle reminder of all the things they do for me regardless of my physical presence with them. It helped me recognize details in my life and lifestyle that I have always been provided with and taken for granted. I can’t be more grateful to God and the selfless people around me for their blessings and indulgence. May we all progress further in our lives. Peace and joy for one and all.

Side note:

This feeling of gratitude reminded me of a conversation between our landlords in Singapore. While the husband had emigrated from Malaysia to Singapore for better work opportunities, his wife was a second generation Singaporean. Having recently arrived in Singapore, we were all in admiration of the public facilities and progress made by Singapore over the last decade when my parents had previously visited the country. However, she was quick to raise complaints against the Government about inefficiencies too trivial for the rest of us since the opportunities and lifestyle in Singapore was a step ahead for us. The husband calmly highlighted how one often fails to recognize the privileges we are born into, in this case, ease of living and Government benefits offered.

Similarly, I wish politicians of our country, who are ungrateful and disrespectful towards the nation and its people, take time off to travel, appreciate the advantages they receive and utilize those resources to empower citizens and further the nation’s agenda.
