Daniel Sturridge : The Conclusion

The likelihood of a summer transfer hovers over Anfield. It has to happen, for the club and the player himself.

I’m a big time fan of Studge. When fit, he’s arguably the cleanest and most efficient strikers in the Premier League. What might have been if Daniel Sturridge could repeat his feats of the 2013/14 season over and over again for Liverpool? I wouldn’t have written this, that’s for sure.

I write this with a heavy heart. It looks increasingly likely that Sturridge and Liverpool will part ways in the summer. It has to happen. It must. For Liverpool and the player himself. 59 goals in 113 matches is a return any striker would take. The things is, he took over four years to rack up those century of matches. That adds a different shine to the story.

The fact that Sturridge has spent so much time in the medical room has hurt the club’s prospects. I know, Roberto Firmino is better suited as a striker to the kind of game we play. I still believe, that Sturridge could have made the contribution if he was fit and playing. The on and off issues with his health has affected his game, both physically and psychologically. That in turn has affected Liverpool. Imagine if we had him to cover for Sadio Mane. A fit and firing Sturridge might have ensured we don’t end the season empty handed.

Anyways.

A month back, I ‘d thrown the hat in. We can’t keep Sturridge at the club beyond the summer. We just can’t rely on him over the course of a season. It’s better to cash in on the England striker and bring a replacement. Liverpool needs a strong and clinical finisher. As for Sturridge, Jurgen Klopp’s system is perhaps not the most suited for the player. There’s also the likelihood of an increase in the frequency of injuries when you play for Klopp. It might be better for him to ply his trade elsewhere. Sturridge is suited to play for a team where he will be fed the ball. Then, he can do what he does best;

Score.

Recent reports out of Anfield states that Sturridge has been injured again and his season might be over. I just couldn’t stop feeling sorry for him. This is not how he deserved to sign off.

Now the question is, how much can we get for his transfer? While his talent is unquestionable, his track record with injuries might hinder the value. Anything between £20–25 million at the most, I’d say. But sell him we must.

Before that I’d want to see him help Liverpool finish in the top 4. I want to see one more robot dance.
