DOES SOCIAL MEDIA REALLY AFFECT SEO AND YOUR WEBSITE RANKINGS
After attending a networking event in Ilkley, West Yorkshire for local businesses and listening to talk given by a local Social Media Guru commenting that Social Media plays a part with helping with SEO for your business website, I decided to do more digging and research and see for myself how much to either back up the claims or throw a spanner in the works to the argument of why Social Media is so important.
Majority of what is in this article is sourced from a guy called Matt Cutts, who was the head of Google’s web spam team, at the time when he commented this he was taking a hiatus from Google. (Video embedded below)
Don’t get me wrong as I feel Social Media Marketing is massively important to any business and this is why my company offers Social Media as a service.
DOES GOOGLE TAKE INTO ACCOUNT FACEBOOK AND TWITTER POSTS/SIGNALS WITHIN ITS RANKING ALGORITHMS?
Google treats Facebook and Twitter pages/posts in the same way it treats any web page when someone makes a search, but it doesn’t take into account the pages and posts as a Ranking Factor.
Firstly you should understand that we are referring to individual pieces of content on each of the social platforms you may use. For example that would be a Tweet on Twitter, so from Google’s point of view every Tweet is its very own web page and that Tweet does not carry to much information. The same goes for Facebook and that means any status updates, Re Shares and Link shares ETC.
You will see on your news feeds each of the individual cards and this could be anything from a FB Group, Page or even your friends and just like on Twitter every post is classed as its own page. Not everything that is indexable will be indexed. (A webpage needs to be indexed to be read by a search engine — Google — Bing)
