One Person, One Vote — Not This Election, Not if You’re a Republican
It seems like a lot of people are excited about Donald Trump this election season. He represents something that voters are missing, something that voters want. Unfortunately, the Republican leadership does not want those votes to count. They have decided that they alone should be able to decide who will become the Republican nominee for president in 2016. They really wanted it to be Jeb Bush and Jeb was convinced that with all of that support, he was clearly destined to be not only the nominee, but our next president. It seems he was a little overconfident.
When Jeb went home, his head hung in shame and his supporters many millions of dollars poorer, the Republican leadership started wondering what to do next. They needed another establishment Republican. They would like to have chosen Kasich but he really didn’t have the votes. Apparently they totally bypassed Chris Christy because he dropped out shortly thereafter and threw his support behind Trump. Realistically, that leaves only Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio as far as “Establishment Republicans.”
The leadership is asking either or both of them, and Kasich and Dr. Carson to drop out and place all of their support behind either Cruz or Rubio. They have put millions, tens of millions, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars into their advertising campaign that they have generically titled, “Anybody but Trump.” They have talking heads out on all of the networks talking about what a rotten guy Trump is because he donated money to Democrats in the past. Of course he did; he was a businessman, not a politician. Billionaire businessmen tend to donate to all politicians who are, or may be in a position to do favors. We all know that the Clintons have done favors even for some pretty nasty world leaders and convicted criminals. Why not do a few favors for a successful businessman?
Then there was Super Tuesday, when all of them said they had to just keep Trump from reaching 300 delegates. They said if he reached 300 delegates it was all over and they could not stop him. This morning, the Wednesday after Super Tuesday, those same pundits came on the air and said that Trump should have had a much better day and that now, even though Donald ended up with well over 300 delegates, there was no way that he would be the GOP nominee.
Donald Trump was their buddy when they wanted donations. Now, he wants to be one of them, but he hasn’t paid his dues. See, they all started on school boards or city councils and worked their ways up to governor, congress or senate. What’s he done? He’s never held an elected position.
Trump is a multi billionaire. He could just kick back and sip civet coffee (weasel poop coffee, look it up) in the morning, then play golf until noon, hop on his jet and go anywhere he wants for dinner. He doesn’t need to run for elected office. What a pain in the neck this must be for him; but there he is, putting himself out there, making first-timer mistakes, getting crapped on by people who used to kiss his ass and trying his hardest to be as good at being a presidential candidate as he is at being a businessman.
The Republican establishment and the Republican National Committee, as well as Paul Ryan and other loud-mouthed congressmen and senators of the Republican party need to give Donald Trump the same respect and consideration as they do any other serious candidate for Republican Nominee for President of the United States Of America. When they don’t, they are compromising the votes of all of those who are supporting him at the polls.
