NHS Setting Up Health Towns
A story appeared earlier this week regarding the NHS and how they were going to get involved in town planning.
Apparantly they will be cycle and walking friendly, have lots of green spaces and amenities readily available.
They will also feature excellent digital infrastructures so that new types of digitally enabled health services can be offered.
Call me cynical but humans love not having to walk or cycle everywhere. It’s great to get into a car, switch on the radio/mp3 player/cd player and drive off in comfort.
It rains in Britain, it is grey, cold and windy. It can be a fine morning and turn into a very wet afternoon. There is no joy walking or riding in the rain, expecially if you are going out somewhere.

You arrive soaking wet, dripping water everywhere and can take virtually nothing with you.
It strikes me as one of those well meaning ideas so loved by bureaucrats in their nice offices, usually in London, that will not affect them at all but gives them a nice, fuzzy feeling of ‘doing good’.
There will be 10 initial sites built. It will probably take years to do, be held up by local objections to planning schemes and judging by the quality of houses public schemes produces not at all pleasant to live there.
