I live a double life. No, not an unbelievably dangerous or glamorous one straight out of an action-fueled spy movie. I don’t have two secret families either. But in my strait-laced life of monogamy and motherhood, my four walls contain a secret that very few others know.

Simple life lessons that fear can teach.

A true panic attack is one of the most terrifying experiences. I’ll never forget the first time I felt my heart beat so fast out of my chest that I lost feeling in my face, fingers and toes. How my hands shook and my chest ached as my airways tried to gasp their final breath. I distinctly remember the alarm bell inside of my head screaming, “Oh God, you’re dying right now, and you have no idea the exact moment it will all go black!”

My experience in changing how I think about failure.

In my early 20’s I had my first brush (of many) with “failure”. I struggled to hold down a job, was failing college and was terribly unhealthy both mentally and physically. I couldn’t manage money, my personal relationships were a mess and it seemed like there was no way out.

You see, I didn’t know it at the time, but well-intentioned people had taught me a very defined (and narrow) idea of what success looked like. It was a big car, big house, big degree, big paycheck and relaxing on top…
