WTF is wrong with education in Brazil?

Disclaimer: This is a rant about the admission process for most colleges in Brazil and about the competition that ENEM became.

ENEM is like the SAT and the SSAT but it involves all high school subjects. I’m not taking it this year.
The score is used in many public colleges in Brazil for admission purpose.

Well…
Today I was taking a preparation class for ENEM, and really, what is wrong with it? It became a competition like the classic games in the Colosseum in antique Rome. Students learn tricks to get advantage in ENEM, which was meant to be a exam to evaluate education in Brazilian high schools.

This was the first time I saw ENEM with the vision of students that will take it in the next weekend(although I won’t do it). People threat each other as opponents in a exam that is used on the admission process of many good colleges in Brazil. Education of quality was supposed to be a right of every single person here, instead, it became a competition putting students against each other.

The students aren’t to blame, the government can’t create enough universities for all of them. This is caused mostly by bad administration, corruption and embezzlement.

Despite this fact, there is another point, why such exam as ENEM is used in the admission process? Why you must rate students based on the knowledge of every single subject in high school? Different from the US, here we have a much deeper and broader range of subjects on every scientific field. Subjects that the student may never see again in it’s life, neither in college and neither in his work, whatever is will be.

I’m really sad that this occurs in a great country like Brazil, and I’m really sorry for everyone who needs to take a process like this.
